MITM (Man in the middle) attack Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
MITM (Man in the middle) attack - Essay Example The other names for MITM attack are fire brigade, Bucket Brigade, monkey-in-the ââ¬âmiddle, TCP hijacking, session hijacking, and TCP session hijacking (Bhatia, 2008) Man-in-the-middle attack can be successful only when the attacker has the ability to impersonate each of the two endpoints to the others satisfaction. Most of the cryptographic protocols involve certain forms of authentication that is designed specifically to prevent the MITM attack. An example of an MITM attack that is successful against the public key encryption is as follows: Inà an MITM (Man-in-the-Middle) attack, the intruder or an attacker inserts or puts himself between notes of two networks. E.g., considering a successful attack, if a packet is sent to Alice by John, the packet sent passes through or branches through the attacker or intruder Jane first and Jane decides after getting it to forward it to the recipient Alice with modifications or without any; upon receiving the packet, Alice thinks that it come from John. The attack i.e. MITM is bidirectional, hence the same process applies upon Alice sending a packet to John (Samah, et al, 2008) The available techniques for preventing an MITM attack are authentication techniques based on second or secure channel verification, passwords and secret keys, which are strong and secure authentication, latency examination, one-time pads, and carry-forward verification. Secret keys are high information entropy secrets hence more secure while passwords are low information entropy secrets, which are less secure (Stewart, 2008). Long or Extended calculations of Cryptographic hash function, which is a latency examination lead into few seconds and incase both involved parties take twenty seconds, the third party can be indicated since the calculation take sixty seconds to reach to each involved party. One-time pads are resistant or immune to MITM (man-in-the-middle)
Keeping Appointments Essay Example for Free
Keeping Appointments Essay Doctors appointments are missed each and every day by people who either forget to show up or choose not to call and cancel their appointment. This article will look at some of the reasons why it is important to try to and keep doctors appointment and what to do if you must cancel. At my previous doctors surgery (office) in the UK, the surgery would regularly post the latest numbers of people who had not shown up for their doctors appointments. I was amazed at the staggering amount of people who failed to show up for their appointments. It was not just a few individuals who did not show up. A large number of people regularly missed their scheduled doctors appointments. If you are a receptionist it can be very frustrating to work under these conditions. You will have to call patients when it is their turn to see the doctor and be left standing when no one appears. Then you must inform the doctor that the patient did not show up. One of the reasons why it is best to try and keep your doctors appointment is because it is the polite thing to do. Would you arrange a job interview with a company you were serious about working for but then fail to show up? It is highly unlikely. Yet, members of the medical profession routinely have to deal with patients who do not show up for their appointments. It is also important to keep your appointment if you will be receiving the results of blood tests, and other test results that will determine your medical condition. This in turn will help doctors see what the next step should be in your courseof treatment. If you miss the appointment, you are not only wasting your doctors time. You could also place your health at risk if you do not start your treatment as quickly as possible. Sometimes, it is just not possible to keep a doctors appointment. It may clash with a business meeting at work or your childs emergency visit to the dentists. If you can, try to inform your doctors surgery of the cancellation 24 hours in advance. But if that is not possible, let them know as soon as you can. That way, your appointment slot can be given to someone else who may be in need of a last minute appointment. Keep in mind that breaking an appointment without first calling to cancel can prevent someone else from being seen and it wastes the time of doctors and the rest of the team.

Effect of Voltage on the Rate of Electroplating a Metal
Effect of Voltage on the Rate of Electroplating a Metal Akinlabi Boluwarinde Oluwatosin BACKGROUND Electroplating is the process of plating one metal onto another by hydrolysis, most commonly for decorative purposes or to prevent corrosion of a metal. There are also specific types of electroplating such as copper plating, silver plating, and chromium plating. Electroplating allows manufacturers to use inexpensive metals such as steel or zinc for the majority of the product and then apply different metals on the outside to account for appearance, protection, and other properties desired for the product. The surface can be a metal or even plastic.[1] RESEARCH QUESTION How does varying the voltage of the circuit affect the rate of electroplating a metal with copper? HYPOTHESIS The voltage of the cell also known as the E.M.F (electromotive force) is known to be the force that drives the current thhrough the circuit. It is expected that by increasing the Voltage the circuit will lead to an increase in the rate of electroplating the metal as more current will flow easily throughout the circuit. VARIABLES Independent Variable The voltage of the circuit Dependent Variable The mass of pure copper electroplated onto the metal Controlled Variable The amount of time allowed for reaction The concentration of the electrolyte solution The metal rod used CONTROL OF VARIABLES The amount of time allowed for reaction to occur will be measured with the use of a stopwatch. The voltage of the circuit will be increased by a fix aed amount of 1.5V to keep the experiment and easily measure a changein rate. The same metal rod will be used throughout the experiment for all trials and of the different voltage. The mass of the metal rod to be used is 7g APPARATUS Cells Low resistance wire Copper solid Electrolyte (copper sulphate solution) Electric Balance Stopwatch Metal rod Voltmeter Beaker METHOD I Setup the circuit as shown in the diagram below. I measured the initial mass of the metal and recorded it.Starting with one cell of 1.5V. I closed the circuit and allowed the reaction to occur for 10 minutes. I removed the electroplated metal and measured its mass and recorded it in the table. I Repeated the experiment increasing the number of cell each time and recorded the mass of the of the electroplated metal each time. SAFTEY PRECAUTIONS There is the risk of electrocution if care is not taken. To avoid this the use of well protected wires is necessary and great care must be taken when carrying out the experiment. DATA COLLECTION Raw Data Voltage /v Mass of metal rod after electrolysis /g à ± 0.1g Trail 1 Trail 2 Trail 3 1.5 7.8 7.9 7.9 3.0 8.9 8.7 8.8 4.5 10.0 9.9 9.9 6.0 11.1 11.2 10.9 Qualitative Observations: The pure copper solid used became faded after it was used in the electrolysis reaction. There was still some residue of copper left on the metal rod after rinsing it. The voltage recorded by the voltmeter was not constant but varried in range that was close to the desired value The mass of the metal rod used is 7g Processed Data Voltage /v Mean Average mass of metal rod after electrolysis /g à ± 0.1g Mass of copper added to rod /g à ± 0.1g 1.5 7.9 0.9 3.0 8.8 1.8 4.5 9.9 2.9 6.0 11.1 4.1 The data has been processed. The mean of the three trials for each voltage has been calculated and represented on the table above as Mean Average mass of metal. Also the mass of copper that was electroplated onto the metal rod was calculated using the equation: Graph 1 Graph 2 CONCLUSION As expected when there was an increase in the voltage flowing in the circuit the mass of copper that was electroplated onto the metal rod increased too. This is because as the voltage increases a larger number of electrons flow from the cell or battery into the anode which causes the formation of copper ions to occur faster and so more ions are attracted to the metal rod (cathode) in the given time. The relationship between mass of copper electroplated and voltage can be seen on both graph 1 and graph 2 above. In graph 1 there is an increase in mass as voltage increases but the graph obtained is a slight curve rather than a straight line which indicates random errors, this could likely be due to the voltage fluctuating in circuit. Graph 2 shows a line of best fit for the graph and it is a straight line graph as expected, the error bars are plotted as well. The line passes through all the error bar ranges but does not touch any of the points on the graph and it does not pass through the origin (0,0), this may be due to systematic errors such as errors in the electric balance when measuring the mass of the metal rod before and after electroplating. The linear correlation is 0.998, which suggest very strong correlation between the two variables. EVALUATION The graph of values obtained was not exactly the same as what was expeted. A straight line graph starting from the origin was the expected graph but the graph ontained after a lin of bestt fit was plotted started from the y-intercept -0.25. This was due to errors in the experiment. Random errors such as the fluctuation of the voltage flowing through the circuit as a result of the chemicl reactions going on in the cell led to some of these errors. The voltmeter showed values that ranged from below to above the value of the voltage required indicating that this variable was not kept constant. The deviations were very little and not too far from the required voltage but were still enough to cause errors. It is also possible that because the same solution was used for all trials not all the copper ions had been electroplated onto the metal rod, this could have altered the concentration of the electrolyte (copper sulphate) leading to more errors as the concentration of the electrolyte als o has an effect on the rate of electroplating. Systematic errors were also present throughout the experiment, errors in measuring the mass of the of the metal rod before and after electroplating and also in measuring the mass of the anhydrous copper sulfate solution. This may have been due to poor caliberation before the experiment was carried out. The copper used may also have not been pure as it is possible that there were impurities in the copper solid used. Finally not all of the copper was rinsed off the metal rod before it was used for the next trial which could have altered the total mass when the mass of the metal after electro plating was measured. Errors in measuring the volume of water to be added to the beaker could also have been present. Systematic errors in the stopwatch used such as the delay in starting when the timer was started. The experiment also depended on human reaction time which is known to less accurate than machines, this will have led to more errors. It is impossible to keep the voltage of the cells constant but the range of values can be reduced by using new cells. The eleectric balance cshould be well caliberated before carring out the experiment and a balance with a higher degree of accuracy and sensitivity (measures to more decimal places) could be used. Before each trial a new electrolyte solution could be used to avoid any changes in concentration during the experiment. The experiment could have been automated using a switch that opened after ten minutes from when it was closed to eliminate the error as a result of dependence on human response time. The experiment could also have been repeated more times to reduce errors and increase accuracy. Also a lager rane of voltages could have been tested to gain more data for better more accurate analysis. War on Drugs Causes the Viloation of Individual Rights Essays -- Expos
Everyone knows the parable of the emperor with no clothes. The significance of a child being the one to point out the emperor's nudity, as opposed to a sermonizing preacher or self-righteous intellectual, is simple to understand. Neither morality nor logic was responsible for stripping the emperor's veil of falsehood. All it took was the truth. One can't help but think of this when considering Gary Johnson, the Republican governor of New Mexico, who, despite pressure from power brokers at the top of his own party, has proclaimed that the emperor that is this country's war on drugs is not only naked to the world, but that its body is festering with the sores of moral decay and corruption. In the governor's own words, "The drug problem is getting worse. It's not getting better ... It needs to get talked about, and one of the things that's going to get talked about is decriminalization." He continues: "What I'm trying to do here is launch discussion ... I think it is the number one problem facing this country today... We really need to put all options on the table" (Albuquerque Journal, June 24, 1999). Not wishing to make a statement without providing viable ideas to support it, Johnson said that changing laws regarding the possession of marijuana would be a logical "first step" since pot is "probably the least dangerous of the identified narcotic drugs that we have" (Albuquerque Journal, July 1, 1999 and Hobbs News-Sun, July 2, 1999). Johnson is not simply grandstanding, as the facts of the situation point out clearly. Despite massive expenditures, the simple fact is that the war on drugs is a total failure. There is more, not less, drug-related violent crime in the United States today than 30 years ago. Far from pro... ...guaranteed by the Constitution. Undeniably, it is a violation of the basic principles of human dignity used to formulate the Constitution. Irrefutably, it provides an almost irresistible temptation for police abuse. And this is one of the mildest forms of enforcement in the hands of the drug warriors. In light of such bleak evidence, it is clear that the drug war has created no winners, but an abundance of losers. The biggest losers are the American citizens, who have seen their cherished rights discarded and continue to suffer decaying schools, nonexistent or inadequate health care, and crumbling infrastructure in poor and rural areas. And still, billions of dollars are poured into a campaign that is nothing more than a ponderous artifact with no place in a free society. The drug war failed a long time ago, and it's time to let it die. That is the naked truth.

MIC :: essays research papers fc
MIC à à à à à Products and machines made of steel have long been considered to be solid, strong, and very durable. The effects of general corrosion, ââ¬Å"rustâ⬠, were considered to be the only factor limiting a steel productââ¬â¢s ability to last forever. It is thought that the general corrosion of steel is recognizable and its effects are easily limited by the application of various coatings and paints. Only in more recent years have the destructive effects of Microbiological Influenced Corrosion, ââ¬Å"MICâ⬠been discovered. Today MIC, whether it is on the bottom of a barge, in a water pipe, or in a nuclear power plantââ¬â¢s cooling tower, has evolved into a billion dollar problem. To cure this problem, I have created a device that cleans MIC out of the bilges of barges operated on the Mississippi River system. The bilges or confined void spaces have never been able to be cleaned due to the extremely tight or inaccessible area in which you would have to work. I found that most barges have a coating on the steel which provides a food source that the MIC bacteria absorbs (eats) and the bacteriaââ¬â¢s resulting acid actually can penetrate the steel barge. Businesses that clean these barges to rid them of the MIC and the organic coating can charge as much as $10,000 to do just the ends of the barges, which is an area less than a tenth of the entire barge. The inner bottom void spaces which take up the remainder of the bargeââ¬â¢s area are only 15â⬠high, 27â⬠wide, and 28ââ¬â¢ long. Some barges have as many as 90 of these confined spaces, and none of them have been cleaned because their limited size makes them inaccessible. With the completion of my product it will be the first time the inner bottom void spaces of a barge can be cleaned. This will mean the MIC and its food source, the organic coating; will be completely removed from the barge for the first time since its original construction at the ship yard. For many years, MIC was incorrectly identified as the corrosive effects of saltwater on steel in ocean going vessels. Although salt certainly does have a corrosive effect on steel, it was not until more recent years that the term MIC was originated, and its effects are only starting to be discovered. MIC is responsible for the accelerated corrosion in ocean going ships, water storage tanks, fire protection sprinkler systems, commercial and military aircraft, and most recently discovered affecting the inland river barge fleet.

Competencies Differences Between ADN and BSN Essay
Florence Nightingale was a nurse who started the nursing training programme in 1860 after the Crimean War. During that war, a lot of women committed themselves to give care for the sick and dying soldiers. The success in their work was evidenced by reduction in mortality and improved prognosis among those injured in the war. Nurses became an indispensable part of the military during that time due to their life-saving work. After the war, nurse training schools were established under the Florence Nightingale model in order to use nurses throughout society (Woolsey, 1950; Dock, 1907). In 1873 the first three training schools were established in New York, New Haven, and Boston. Students were able to attain their nursing education and skills training in two to three years. Society began to refer to these nurses as trained nurses as they were among the first to undergo formal schooling for nursing care. In 1912 the American Nurses Association (ANA) focused on obtaining legal recognition for trained nurses. In 1951, nurse educator Mildred Montag started a new two year associates degree program in nursing in order to produce trained nurses who would assist professional, baccalaureate prepared nurses. Her aim was not to replace the baccalaureate degree program with the associate degree program. The American Association of College of Nursing (AACN) believes that education has a significant impact on the knowledge competencies of nurse clinicians. Nurses with bachelors degrees in nursing are well equipped to meet the demand placed on todayââ¬â¢s nurse especially because their curriculum places great emphasis on critical thinking. BSN nurses are also trained in case management, health promotion, and this in depth learning makes them highly versatile in that they are able to practice across a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. Recent studies have indicated that, in the acute care setting, the mortality rate is reduced by the presence of greater numbers of baccalaureate prepared nurses (Aiken, Clarke, Cheung, Sloane & Sliber, 2003; Estabrooks, Midodzi, Cummings, Ricker & Giovanetti, 2005; Tourangeau et al. 2006). The BSN programme curriculum incorporates ââ¬Å"clinical, scientific decision making and humanistic skillâ⬠(Vande Mortel and Bird 2010). The ADN can give efficient bedside care to the patient with their clinical experience, however these nurses are not exposed to the broad spectrum education that baccaulareate nurses experience. Thus, ADNs do not have a basis on which to implement wholistic care measures, and their knowledge base for critical thinking is limitedââ¬ânot due to their mental capacity, but because of the width and depth of their accelerated curriculum. In these days the health care is expanding and globalizing, thus, the demands placed on the nurse have grown and become more complex. Nurses therefore must have the appropriate knowledge base to bring about optimal outcomes in their patients. The American Association of colleges of nursing (AACN) recognizes the ââ¬Å"bachelor of science degree in nursing as the minimum educational requirement for professional nursing practiceâ⬠(AACN 2000, para 2). BSN prepared nurses are prepared in assertive and professional communication, patient/family education, critical thinking, and implementing measures based on a wholistic perspective. BSN focuses on a broader picture and thus an approach to nursing that places more emphasis on critical thinking. In the United States, associate degree graduates are working in a health care system that is rapidly growing and changing. So they can study while working in order to improve their degree standing to a bachelors or masters degree. This would advance not only their knowledge base, but their competency in nursing practice. Thus, patient outcomes could improve in their nursing setting. Moreover, many institutions have financial support in place to assist the working student nurse. This lessens the burden of attending school and benefits the institution. According to a study published by Dr. Betty Rambur and her colleagues, in the July/August 2003 issue of Nursing Outlook, increasing the proportion of baccalaureate prepared nurses in the registered nursing population may be essential to stabilizing the nursing workforce. Nurses prepared at the BSN level were also found to have higher levels of job satisfaction which is key to nursing retention. Effective clinical decision making is the important factor in quality of care. For example, in the clinical area, if we order labs for the patient, a skilled BSN nurse can identify the normal and abnormal lab result and this nurse can critically evaluate what may be wrong with the patient, based not only on the lab result, but much of the information in the patientââ¬â¢s chart. This information would include admission diagnoses, past medical history, family medical history, new complaints, medication effects, etc. A BSN would utilize his or her knowledge of biology, chemistry, psychology, faith and spirituality, etc. in a way that best advocates wholistic care of the patient. So, a patient with a past medical history of a heart attack, current diagnosis of congestive heart failure (CHF) and an abnormal lab result showing an elevated troponin level is can assess for signs and symptoms of a heart attack, provide nitroglycerine and make arrangements to have the patient placed on telemetry monitoring and/or transferred to a cardiac care unit. This will provide that patient with specialized care that will focus on his risk for myocardial infarction and try to improve his health outcomes. In this same situation, an ADN may not pick up on these cues as quickly and this may delay in good decision making that would affect the patientââ¬â¢s condition. This patient needs care that is intuitive and careful; a critically thinking nurse will be the best person to provide this life-sensitive care. Again, professional knowledge, keen assessment, and critical thinking assist the nurse in making an effective decision. A baccalaureate program in nursing would be well able to equip a nurse for this kind of care. I agree things can be done to improve the professional status of nurses ,but requiring a BSN is not one of them. Its upto all nurses that keep doing continuing education as a part of our practice. Any one can take nursing classes, pass those exams and even they can pass NCLEX exam, but not anyone can be a good nurse.

Part Five Chapter VIII
XIII Sukhvinder had been walking around Pagford longer than Samantha. She had left the Old Vicarage shortly after her mother had told her she must go to work, and since then had been wandering the streets, observing invisible exclusion zones around Church Row, Hope Street and the Square. She had nearly fifty pounds in her pocket, which represented her wages from the cafe and the party, and the razor blade. She had wanted to take her building society pass book, which resided in a little filing cabinet in her father's study, but Vikram had been at his desk. She had waited for a while at the bus stop where you could catch a bus into Yarvil, but then she had spotted Shirley and Lexie Mollison coming down the road, and dived out of sight. Gaia's betrayal had been brutal and unexpected. Pulling Fats Wall â⬠¦ he would drop Krystal now that he had Gaia. Any boy would drop any girl for Gaia, she knew that. But she could not bear to go to work and hear her one ally trying to tell her that Fats was all right, really. Her mobile buzzed. Gaia had already texted her twice. How pissed was I last nite? R u going 2 work? Nothing about Fats Wall. Nothing about snogging Sukhvinder's torturer. The new message said, R u OK? Sukhvinder put the mobile back into her pocket. She might walk towards Yarvil and catch a bus outside town, where nobody would see her. Her parents would not miss her until five thirty, when they expected her home from the cafe. A desperate plan formed as she walked, hot and tired: if she could find a place to stay that cost less than fifty pounds â⬠¦ all she wanted was to be alone and ply her razor blade. She was on the river road with the Orr flowing beside her. If she crossed the bridge, she would be able to take a back street all the way round to the start of the bypass. ââ¬ËRobbie! Robbie! Where are you?' It was Krystal Weedon, running up and down the river bank. Fats Wall was smoking, with one hand in his pocket, watching Krystal run. Sukhvinder took a sharp right onto the bridge, terrified that one of them might notice her. Krystal's yells were echoing off the rushing water. Sukhvinder caught sight of something in the river below. Her hands were already on the hot stone ledge before she had thought about what she was doing, and then she had hoisted herself onto the edge of the bridge; she yelled, ââ¬ËHe's in the river, Krys!' and dropped, feet first, into the water. Her leg was sliced open by a broken computer monitor as she was pulled under by the current. Part Five Chapter VIII VIII Samantha was driven from the spare room at last by her urgent need to pee. She drank cold water from the tap in the bathroom until she felt sick, gulped down two paracetamol from the cabinet over the sink, then took a shower. She dressed without looking at herself in the mirror. Through everything she did, she was alert for some noise that would indicate the whereabouts of Miles, but the house seemed to be silent. Perhaps, she thought, he had taken Lexie out somewhere, away from her drunken, lecherous, cradle-snatching mother â⬠¦ (ââ¬ËHe was in Lexie's class at school!' Miles had spat at her, once they were alone in their bedroom. She had waited for him to move away from the door, then wrenched it back open and run to the spare room.) Nausea and mortification came over her in waves. She wished she could forget, that she had blacked out, but she could still see the boy's face as she launched herself at him â⬠¦ she could remember the feel of his body pressed against her, so skinny, so young â⬠¦ If it had been Vikram Jawanda, there might have been some dignity in it â⬠¦ She had to get coffee. She could not stay in the bathroom for ever. But as she turned to open the door, she saw herself in the mirror, and her courage almost failed. Her face was puffy, her eyes hooded, the lines in her face etched more deeply by pressure and dehydration. Oh God, what must he have thought of me â⬠¦ Miles was sitting in the kitchen when she entered. She did not look at him, but crossed straight to the cupboard where the coffee was. Before she had touched the handle, he said, ââ¬ËI've got some here.' ââ¬ËThanks,' she muttered, and poured herself out a mug, avoiding eye contact. ââ¬ËI've sent Lexie over to Mum and Dad's,' said Miles. ââ¬ËWe need to talk.' Samantha sat down at the kitchen table. ââ¬ËGo on, then,' she said. ââ¬ËGo on ââ¬â is that all you can say?' ââ¬ËYou're the one who wants to talk.' ââ¬ËLast night,' said Miles, ââ¬Ëat my father's birthday party, I came to look for you, and I found you snogging a sixteen-year ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬ËSixteen-year-old, yes,' said Samantha. ââ¬ËLegal. One good thing.' He stared at her, appalled. ââ¬ËYou think this is funny? If you'd found me so drunk that I didn't even realize ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬ËI did realize,' said Samantha. She refused to be Shirley, to cover everything up with a frilly little tablecloth of polite fiction. She wanted to be honest, and she wanted to penetrate that thick coating of complacency through which she no longer recognized a young man she had loved. ââ¬ËYou did realize ââ¬â what?' said Miles. He had so plainly expected embarrassment and contrition that she almost laughed. ââ¬ËI did realize that I was kissing him,' she said. He stared at her, and her courage seeped away, because she knew what he was going to say next. ââ¬ËAnd if Lexie had walked in?' Samantha had no answer to that. The thought of Lexie knowing what had happened made her want to run away and not come back ââ¬â and what if the boy told her? They had been at school together. She had forgotten what Pagford was like â⬠¦ ââ¬ËWhat the hell's going on with you?' asked Miles. ââ¬ËI'm â⬠¦ unhappy,' said Samantha. ââ¬ËWhy?' asked Miles, but then he added quickly, ââ¬ËIs it the shop? Is it that?' ââ¬ËA bit,' said Samantha. ââ¬ËBut I hate living in Pagford. I hate living on top of your parents. And sometimes,' she said slowly, ââ¬ËI hate waking up next to you.' She thought he might get angry, but instead he asked, quite calmly, ââ¬ËAre you saying you don't love me any more?' ââ¬ËI don't know,' said Samantha. ââ¬ËMaybe he'll be the first of many!' yelled Samantha, getting up from the table and slamming her mug down in the sink; the handle came off in her hand. ââ¬ËDon't you get it, Miles? I've had enough! I hate our fucking life and I hate your fucking parents ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬Ë ââ¬â you don't mind them paying for the girls' education ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬Ë ââ¬â I hate you turning into your father in front of me ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬Ë ââ¬â absolute bollocks, you just don't like me being happy when you're not ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬Ë ââ¬â whereas my darling husband doesn't give a shit how I feel ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬Ë ââ¬â plenty for you to do round here, but you'd rather sit at home and sulk ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬Ë ââ¬â I don't intend to sit at home any more, Miles ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬Ë ââ¬â not going to apologize for getting involved with the community ââ¬â ââ¬Ë ââ¬Ë ââ¬â well, I meant what I said ââ¬â you're not fit to fill his shoes!' ââ¬ËWhat?' he said, and his chair fell over as he jumped to his feet, while Samantha strode to the kitchen door. ââ¬ËYou heard me,' she shouted. ââ¬ËLike my letter said, Miles, you're not fit to fill Barry Fairbrother's shoes. He was sincere.' ââ¬ËYour letter?' he said. ââ¬ËYep,' she said breathlessly, with her hand on the doorknob. ââ¬ËI sent that letter. Too much to drink one evening, while you were on the phone to your mother. And,' she pulled the door open, ââ¬ËI didn't vote for you either.' The look on his face unnerved her. Out in the hall, she slipped on clogs, the first pair of shoes she could find, and was through the front door before he could catch up.
